Schgaguler Schwaige
A family-friendly hike in the Dolomites with playground and petting zoo
If younger guests are not yet excited about trekking in the Dolomites, they are sure to enjoy making friends with animals along the way. The trail starts right outside the hotel and leads towards the Ritsch Schwaige across beautifully flowering meadows, framed by a breathtaking Dolomite panorama. After around 1.5 hours you reach the Schgaguler Schwaige, where adults can savour a lovingly prepared lunch while children let off steam in the playground or meet llamas, rabbits, goats and ponies up close.
Around the Puflatsch with four refreshment stops
From the hotel, head to the Alpe di Siusi cable car mountain station, passing the Tschötscher Schwaige before continuing to the nearby Puflatsch Hut. At “Engelsrast” you will find a viewing platform that displays the names of the surrounding Dolomite peaks. Continuing north, you first reach the Gollerkreuz and then the “Hexenbänke” (Witches’ Benches), a striking rock formation resembling seating benches. The trail then passes the Arnika Hut before leading you back to the starting point of your hike in the Dolomites.
Sassolungo–Sassopiatto circuit: trekking in the Dolomites for experienced hikers
This 31-kilometre route takes you all the way around the Sassolungo massif. From the hotel, you begin with a pleasant walk to the Mahlknecht Hut. A ridge walk along the “Schneid” continues to the Plattkofel Hut and then around both the Sassolungo and Sassopiatto peaks. The circuit can be completed either clockwise or anti-clockwise. Back at the hut, you can enjoy a well-deserved small (or large) refreshment!
To the Castle in the Mountains and on to the Tierser Alpl: a far-reaching hike on the Alpe di Siusi
First, hike to the Schlernhaus, which takes around two and a half hours. The route then continues across the Schlern massif, along the western ridge of the Roterdspitze, descending to its southern base and crossing the slopes beneath the Rosszähne. After a further two hours, you reach the Tierser Alpl. From there, you can ascend to the Rosszahnscharte and descend in switchbacks to the northern foot of the Rosszähne. With only gentle elevation changes, the path leads you back to the Alpenhotel Panorama.
